Designing human-in-the-loop approvals

October 11, 2026 · 1 min read · admin

Human-in-the-loop does not mean a person approves everything. It means people are involved where their judgement adds the most value.

Ask when the cost of being wrong is high

Payments, external messages and changes to master data usually deserve a review step, at least at first.

Skip approval for routine, reversible work

Over-asking trains reviewers to click ‘approve’ without reading, which is worse than no review.

Make the review easy

Show the source document, the agent’s proposed action and the reason side by side, with one-click approve, edit or reject.

Record everything

Store who approved what and when. Over time, the data shows which approvals can safely be automated.
